Upon reconsideration.

Like most Edmontonians/Oilers Fans, I was initially very miffed at the deal we got for Chris Pronger. Oh yes, I said "miffed". However, after some consideration and reading a bit on the two players coming to Edmonton, Joffrey Lupul and Ladislav Smid, I'd like to change my opinion. Perhaps I'm being a bit optimistic but I think that Edmonton actually got the better end of the deal.

Lupul, a hometown boy, just finished his 2nd year in the NHL and he was Anaheim's first round draft pick in 2002. Here are his stats (I've been trying to load a pic of Lupul ... he's a hottie but stupid blogger is being an ass again!):

Games played (81)
Goals (28)
Assists (25)
Points (53)

And that doesn't include his playoff stats - Had four goals in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals against Colorado, becoming the first player in NHL history to score four goals in a playoff game, including the overtime winner... was also the first Ducks player to score four goals in any game, regular season or playoffs... had six goals total in that series, also a club record... scored nine goals and two assists overall in the postseason. (from EdmontonOilers.com)

Smid is an up and comer, expected to eventually be a #1 D-man and was Anaheim's #1 draft pick in 2004. Overall, not too shabby. On top of these two we also get a bunch of draft picks which will screw Anaheim over in the next few years and help us out immensely! As Klowe himself said, we're pretty set when it comes to forwards and goal, we just need to pick up another defenseman or two. AND there's still a whole lot of salary room to play with. We're going to have a great team come October!!!
