Cold War Era Movies

My local video store does not carry "The Hunt for Red October". WTF? Are you kidding me? Sheesh.

The book I'm reading (Gulag, see below) has got me reminiscing for those "great" movies of the 80's and early 90's...remember when they were all about the great Russian enemy? Good vs. Evil, us against them. I've been trying to remember some of them and my mind has gone a complete blank, well almost.

I've remembered a couple but would love it if anyone else can remember some - please leave a comment:
- Red Dawn (terrible)
- Rocky IV (Dolph Lundgren...need I say more?)
- Hunt for Red October
- Russkies (oh god, I actually thought Whip Hubley was cute at one point...)
- Spies Like Us (Oh yeah baby, I own this one!)
- Gorky Park (can't find a copy)
- Falcon and the Snowman
- Osterman Weekend
- Gulag (I remember seeing this one on tape years ago but no one carries it and you can't buy it anywhere)

I liked Red Dawn!

My brother has Gorky Park somewhere. I should watch it sometime.

Another word in defense of Red Dawn, if I may ... to me, it's just the perfect guilty pleasure and the perfect rainy saturday afternoon flick

Alright, I'll admit, I enjoy approximately the first hour of Red Dawn but after that, I thought it went downhill. It had the chance to take a really great idea and turn into a damn good movie. Alas, in my humble opinion, it fell short.

Yeah, but it was an 80s flick. It's supposed to have a slight cheese factor. And it had The Swayze in it!
