Goats hate ABBA

While I was in university, my mother and her then-husband, Wee Willy, had an acreage/farm thingy where they "tried" to raise various animals. Turkeys, pheasants, chickens, potbellied pigs and unfortunately goats. I hate goats. They used to jump on any car parked in front of the house (try to explain to your father that his ex-wife's goats scratched the hood of his hyundai and it wasn't the result of some wild frat party gone wrong).

On one trip to visit my mother (and get a free dinner and use of her washing machine), my friend T and I were in the yard trying to help mom "herd" the animals into one of the barns. My mom is one of those women who dive in and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. Generally I'm one of those people too unless it involves a living creature with a brain of it's own (regardless of how small) and covered in shit. T wanted no part of it either. To pass the time while waiting for my mother to finish, we decided to sing to the goats. Now in all fairness, neither one of us can sing. What did we decide to serenade the little baa-ers with? A wee bit of ABBA. We thought it was a good choice however we quickly learned that goats do NOT enjoy Swedish music from the 70s and 80s. Mom's favourite and naturally largest goat was named Zeus. After the first verse of Fernando, he turned towards us and began pawing the ground as he lowered his giant horned head. We stopped.

After reading this article, I suppose I should have been more appreciative of the herd.

"Goats hate Abba"? Strange... I thought, what with them eating cans and all, that maybe they had bad taste. Seems I was wrong all these years.

I'm pretty certain he was just waiting for the chorus so that he could join in.

I actually like goats but have never had to deal with them on a personal level (although I milked one once).

Could it be the choice of song? Was it Knowing Me, Knowing Ewe?

There's more songs for Goats at the Digoatheque.

LOL! Singing to goats - ah more eccentric than I am. This post bought back fine memories - I met my husband at a farm while the goats did a tap dance on top of my vehicle.

Well. There's no accounting for taste. I like the pic of ABBA, though. What on earth possessed them to pose in tinfoil? Are they pretending to be chickens ready for the roasting? Love the old haircuts. Always good for a laugh.
