Pizza 73 - Scam Artists?

Saturday, January 13, 2007
Since today was payday and yesterday a special day, I've treated myself to a pizza from Pizza 73, one of the major pizza chains in western Canada. Mmmm. Pizza. Last time I ordered, I had asked them to switch the olives for pineapple and the mushrooms for banana peppers (I hate the squidginess of the fungus and rubbery Cheerio-type veggies). There was no problem. There was also no indication of an extra charge for "extra toppings". Today, however, it was a different story. I was told "We don't do substitutions, ever". When I raised the subject of my last order, I was told by the very nice, very polite lady on the phone that what they probably did was added them as extra toppings and just didn't add the icky mushrooms and olives. I said that was stupid and made no sense...yes, I did actually use the word stupid on the phone. I even said that I was allergic to mushrooms and olives but no can do. It's not like they're adding additional toppings. It's the same amount of stuff on top of my pizza, they're not losing any money. In fact, they end up getting an extra buck out of me because they have to charge me for the toppings. Now, I realize this is not the fault of the call centre agent taking my order and I made that clear to her. I was, however, baffled by their policy. Ok, not completely baffled - it's good business for them in the sense that they get slightly more profit but bad business in the sense that it makes me want to find a new pizza place (not that I should really be eating pizza anyways...). She has agreed to pass my concerns on but I doubt anything will change. And in the long run, it's only a buck. But it's the principle, you know?

It IS the principle of the thing. It's pizza for crying out loud - they have the ingredients there already - what's the problem?

Weird. Sounds like it's time to find a new pizza place.

I've never heard of that pizza chain. Must be an AB thing?

That is a ridiculous policy. Like Barbara said, it's PIZZA for crying out loud! I'd take my business elsewhere for sure.

I just tagged you for the ABC tag on my blog, BTW.

Well, the pizza looks yummy -

I don't think any giant brains work at the pizza places - once I was asked if I wanted cheese, I said of course, I want cheese, pizzas have cheese. Well, that will be 90 cents extra. WHAT! Pizzas ARE cheese - what do you mean, optional cheese.

Last time I tried to get pizza from that place was two days ago - I tried for 45 minutes to call in, but no one would pick up the phone. Silly me, I jumped in the car and drove up to the window and ordered a pizza and said I would wait. She informed me that I would wait 45 minutes. I cancelled the order.

I mean, what IS it with pizza places???????????

An exception - CiCi's where I am moving to - they make the most yummy low carb pizza - a senior and a child can eat for $6.00 including drinks! AND its GOOD!

CiCi's is not an exception to good prices anymore. I noticed that these posts are from last year. Now when you walk into CiCi's if you get a drink (which everyone does) you can't avoid paying almost $8.00. Also, they now try to upgrade you to a to-go cup (which is over $2.50) without telling you how much it costs. Funny how $5.50 suddenly becomes almost $9.00.
