Collapse - Jared Diamond

This was one of those books that I was really eager to read. Years ago, I had read Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel and loved it. For the past few months I've been reading it on and off, in between others. I've finally given up on it with only two chapters to go. I can't finish it. Admittedly, Diamond makes some good arguments and his discussions about Easter Island, Norse Settlements in Greenland, and the Maya were well done. However, I found that he repeats the same arguments again and again, and it's a tiring. And Collapse is way too long. He could have easily shaved off about 100 pages and got his message across without losing anything. I originally added it to my list of books but as I didn't truly finish it, it's been deleted. And to think, I could have used all those hours spent forcing myself trying to read it to finish off Don Quixote... My recommendation? If you'd like to read one of his books, grab a copy of Guns, Germs and Steel and leave Collapse on the shelf.
