Have You Hugged the Earth Today?

Sunday, April 22, 2007
You really should, you know. Why? Today is Earth Day! That's a bit like a birthday, so get out there, throw yourself on the ground and kiss some mud. Ok, maybe not... but today is a celebration of our planet and doing what we can to preserve it. And no, that does not mean putting it in a mason jar and pickling it. Please do your best to reduce, reuse, and recycle today. I'm going to do my part by not flying anywhere (today) and carpooling to the gym. If you have to go anywhere today, try to walk. If you have to travel and it's too far to walk, use mass-transit. Try to avoid turning on the lights in your house/apartment if you really don't need them. Try having a cold/cool supper or lunch rather than using your highly inefficient stove. Eat locally grown food. Plant a tree. Or a small garden. Donate some old clothes rather than throwing them away. Turn off the TV and your computer (except when watching the hockey playoffs). Don't throw out old batteries, turn them into your local environmental recyling depot or electronic dropoff station. Switch to the new low energy bulbs and rechargable batteries. Hug some dirt. Or a tree...

I can do all that except for turning off the computer today. Well maybe for a few hours.

Happy Earth Day!

I already use the more expensive but also more efficent lightbulbs throught out my house. We use public transit, and I do my best to recycle.
Turn off the computer? That might be tough....

Yep, the computer is going to be a toughie.

But yesterday we recycled a truckload of glass bottles, and we have also accumulated three bagfuls of paper and cardboard that can be recycled. And I had my own (recycled) bags with me when I went to the shops on Saturday. It costs me zero effort, so I'm going to make every day into Earth Day as much as I can.
