Today was a great day to shop for shoes.

I'm not one of those women who need a seperate closet just for their footwear. Before today, I had a grand total of 3 pairs of shoes that I wear regularly and a pair of heeled boots for special occasions (interviews, special dinners, dates, etc). Yep, that's it - three pairs. Running shoes, hiking books and a pair of slip on casual shoes that I wear at work. This last pair is falling apart and in desperate need of replacement. Frankly I don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars a closet full of shoes that I rarely wear. However, I've become increasingly more willing to pay large amounts for a single pair of great fitting, comfortable shoes that I know I'll get my money's worth out of.

So, today, rather than hitting the mall with its plethora of chain stores and funky shoe shops, after breakfast (delicious) mom and I headed to a little family owned shoe store on Jasper Avenue, Wener Shoes which specializes in European imports. I had heard great things about the store and their shoes so I figured I'd give it a go. Their selection was slim (a quite small store) and the window display did not entice me at all. However, I was not to be disappointed. Once I started checking out their shoes, I was in heaven. Within five minutes, I had found a pair, tried them on, and fell in love. And not just with the shoes - the store's owners have a chocolate lab named bella who keeps her eyes on the customers when it's busy.

I found this pair of Josef Seibel Mary Jane-esque flats which must be from last season as they were...prepare yourself...50% off! Sweet mother of all that is unholy! Could it be true? It was, dear reader, it was. However, the savings didn't last as I needed to get new sockette-thingy's to wear with them and mom's running shoes were a bit more expensive than expected. Oh well, she'll make good use of them, as I will out of my new cute shoes! UPDATE: I came across this pair of shoes that I really really want too while looking for the shoe website.

Reader poll (male and female): How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Six, which includes 2 pairs of runners, a fancy pair of heels, and a pair of winter boots.

I'm not a believer in buying a tonne of shoes either. And like you I buy the best quality I can afford, as I figure my feet are worth it.

Those are some cute shoes you got (and that you are lusting after).

I have more shoes than I need, that's for sure... at least 11 pairs, but that's from memory, and there may well be others...

Those slip-on Mary Janes are super-cute. They look comfy too! But I'm pulling the plug on comfort. Out of my 11 pairs of shoes, eight are comfy, flat shoes (hiking boots and the like), and one of my new year's resolutions was to be more sexy and that. Which is why I bought three pairs of high-heeled (for me) shoes just before Christmas. I have worn them twice so far...

Certainly at least ten, but I'm going from memory. Not all are wearable for long periods, though.
