Good but bad but good but bad but good but bad...

Trust me, I do a killer Vicki Pollard. It's been one of those days aboard the Swiftsure for yer Captain. It started off pretty well. Back to work after a relaxing four day weekend. I realized that I had only three days of work and then another long weekend thanks to the May 2-4 weekend (although it falls on the 2-1 this year)*. As it officially marks the start of summer for us, it's traditionally celebrated by going camping and getting completely shitfaced. However, most Albertans are in for a bit of a shock considering we're scheduled for rain most of the weekend and some spots, including Edmonton, might get snow on Monday.

Then work started. Yuck. I'm beginning to not enjoy it very much at all. Time for a change? Perhaps. Then happy happy joy joy. Today was the day the bosses were taking us out for lunch as a belated Admin Asst's day present. We headed to Earls, a chain restaurant but a fairly good one. Yummy lunch but way too salty and I felt very icky by the time we got back to the office. Then, the afternoon zipped by (woo hoo) until I bit the bullet and called the gym (yuck). Seems, according to both people I spoke to, I am unable to cancel my membership as I signed up for a year and essentially (although they didn't come out and say the words) they won't let me out of it. Bastards. Both V and R tried to offer me their own services as trainers to work out with and design a program, or switching to another location. I was fine when I started the conversation but by the end I was so angry and pissed off. I kept saying how I didn't want to go back there and how uncomfortable I now was but there was no getting through to them. Naturally they want to keep me around (and my money). Finally R offered to work with me himself (he's the fitness charge of all the trainers) and if it took more than the three free sessions, they would keep going. Exasperated and realizing it was a losing battle I told him I'd think about it. Chances are I'll say yes, what choice do I have after all? Continue to pay and not go? Where's the sense in that...

Home time. Much happier although I spent the last 10 minutes of work in the ladies room crying (I do that when I get angry...I don't know why but my mother and sister in law do it too). However, got on the bus and the lady beside me kept talking to me and wouldn't let me read my book. Damn. Made it home and ate ice cream for supper. Good. Topped it off with chocolate syrup. Bad. Added a banana. Good. The Senators are behind 3-2 to the Sabres. Bad.

Finally, good news. I finished another book today - Robinson Crusoe. Adding it to my 1000 books list, I realized that I had completely forgotten about my one year goal. 12 books. Ladies and bloggers, I'm happy to report that I doubled that. As of May 1st, I had finished 24 books. I've now started in on my summer reading list (see toolbar at left). At the rate I'm going with The Lovely Bones (thanks Red and *Asterisk), it will be finished before the start of the weekend. I know that Wandering Coyote had decided to make a similar list, anyone out there want to take on the Summer Reading Challenge? All you have to do is pick 5, 10, 15, however many books you want (preferably at least 5...), list them on your blog and let us know your progress as the summer passes.

*For you non-Canadians, officially it is the Victoria Day holiday on Monday in honor of Queen Victoria. However, most of us Canuckleheads refer to it as the May 2-4 or two-fer. Yes, we're one of those rare countries that has a holiday which commemorates a flat of beer... This weekend (Sunday - check local listings), CBC will be showing Bob and Doug Mackenzie's Strange Brew (how very Canadian and it should be required viewing for all new Canadians and foreign visitors...) and then airing a May 2-4 special hosted by the Mackenzie Brother's themselves. Coo coo coo coo coo coo coo coo!

Do you have documentation about their promises for the free sessions and the fact that they had been cancelled with no warning...sounds like breach of contract....stop paying and stop going....I'm guessing if you expalin why you have a good case and walk out they will not go after you. You could also threaten to go to the gym and tell everyone their and everyone lesewhere your problems...they won't want you around

Damn that gym! Did you pay for the membership all at once or is it monthly?

I might take you up on the summer reading challenge. And The Lovely Bones is a quick read - you'll be done in no time at all.

I am less than enamored of my job these days as well. Want to start a business together or something?
