Surrender Pronto, or We'll Level Toronto

For all of my non-Canadian readers (the two of you out there...you know who you are), I'm going to recommend a great movie about Canada since it's our nation's birthday. If you've never been here, or would just like to learn a bit more about what makes us truly unique on the world stage, I suggest you rent yourself a copy of CANADIAN BACON. It did pretty poorly in the States which is not surprising as, and I'm generalizing here so don't get too upset, they can't stand to see themselves portrayed in a negative light. As for us, we don't take ourselves too seriously and can laugh at the comical portrayal of our land in this film. It's a hilarious look at a fictious invasion of Canada by our neighbours to the south (and yes, that's neighbours with a "U"). Enjoy!

I liked John Candy a lot... Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a classic, as is Uncle Buck. And Cool Runnings. I remember reading reviews of Canadian Bacon back in the day, and not many of them were good, but maybe you're on to something saying that it's because the US market just didn't get it.

Hope you had a fantabulous Canada Day, btw!

Seems you have more that two non-Canuck readers after all! I'd watch this, I guess, if only for the Candy man. (Don't say that three times in a mirror!)

How dare you suggest that Americans have anything that even CAN be portrayed as negative?!

Heh. I am really, really kidding.

I just added Canadian Bacon to my Netflix queue. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation, hoser.
