Sinners Repent! The End of the World is Nigh!

I awoke to the news this morning that due to George Jr.'s colonoscopy (which is supposedly routine) today, presidential power has been given to Vice President Satan....oops, I mean Dick Cheney. I must have fainted because I woke up on the floor with the cat gnawing on my toes. Who would have thought I'd ever say it, but I hope Bush comes through this with flying colours and goes back to being president.

All the Harry Potter fans are now nestled safely in their beds, chairs, closets, or in cupboards under the stairs with the last book in the series. It was finally allowed to go on sale at one minute past midnight last night (this morning?) and there have been lineups, parties, and general overall craziness from people eagerly anticipating the event. I'm going to have to refrain from making fun of all those crazies who dressed up and stood in line for hours on end. Yes, I'm a bit of a Potter fan myself. I have read the other six books and will eventually read this one but I'm not going to succomb to the hysteria. I'm curious though to know if a supposed spoiler I had read was correct.

POTTER FANS BEWARE: POSSIBLE SPOILER FOLLOWS!
My original guess was that Voldemort and Harry would both kill each other at the end but somehow that seems just too "Hollywood". There were two different spoilers I had read. The first said Snape dies and even gave a page number. Not sure if I believe it, I certainly don't want to. Again, too obvious a choice. The other seems a bit more reasonable. It stated that Hagrid and .... prepare yourselves ... Hermione die. I'm more inclined to believe that one. If you've spent the entire night reading the final book, you wanna let me know who Rowling kills off? Knowing the ending won't keep me from eventually reading it. What about the rest of you? Who do you think is going to die?

SAFE TO CONTINUE READING...
Four people, including one from my department, are quitting work within the next 3 weeks. Things are going to be very hectic for, I'm guessing, the next few months. I'm guessing that this is going to have an impact on my ability to blog beginning in mid August - right after the marathon (odd coincedence). In a way, I'm looking forward to being busy all the time. It certainly makes the time go by much more quickly and it feels as though I'm contributing. We'll see how things turn out.

Speaking of the marathon...oooooh!!!!! Excitement. I guess you can say it's my own version of the Harry Potter mania. I've already got my pre-race meals (night before dinner and morning of breakfast) planned out thanks to some great suggestions from other runners/walkers on a message board I visit. I'll likely host my mother and Aunt for dinner the night before so we can carbo-load together. We're still not sure how we're going to get to the marathon yet - considering the time we're going to be there, I doubt we'll find anyone who wants to get up that early to shuttle us there. And as you can see from the clicker (at the time of writing this), there's just over 22 days to go and counting... I walked home twice this week, both days being the hottest we've seen so far this summer. Yes, I'm that dumb.

Not much else to say. I'm not going to bother to blog about Harper's vacation visit to South America and the Caribbean other than to say it seems he's ignoring the larger problems many of the countries he's visited are facing. Barry Bonds is approaching the home run record but could he have done it without all the "modern" equipment and performance enhancing drugs? I doubt it. Still no rain here in E-Town and it's going to be warm again (although not HOT for a change). The Summer Reading Challenge continues. Everyone seems to be doing better than expected. Woo hoo! I've got nothing else. Later.

What happened with the Blogger/spamblog thing??? You're publishing, so I'm assuming all is well. Did you ever hear from them?
