Gerard Butler as Snake Plissken?

Thursday, August 16, 2007
No Joe, say it ain't so...! According to the daily entertainment news on IMDb.com:

Filmmaker Len Wiseman is in negotiations to direct the remake of cult classic Escape From New York. Actor Gerard Butler has already signed up to star in the update of director John Carpenter's futuristic action film as anti-hero Snake Plissken, a part made famous by Kurt Russell in the 1981 original and its 1996 sequel Escape From LA.

This sounds oddly familiar and yet I'm still outraged. You already know my views about most remakes but this is bordering on blasphemy! No offense to Mr. Butler or Mr. Wiseman. I don't know about the rest of you but John Carpenter movies are classics which shouldn't be remade. And who's name is more synonymous with John Carpenter movies than Kurt Russell? I say we start a letter writing campaign or an online petition or something. This just cannot be allowed.
