Save Some Boobies

Now that things have finally calmed down from the marathon, it’s time to get geared up for our annual fall participation in the CIBC Run for The Cure in support of Breast Cancer Research. And of course, that once again means I’m begging for donations. Thanks to all who donated money to the Stollery Children’s Hospital for the marathon. With your help, we were able to raise $195! That’s awesome!!! While I didn’t reach my goal of $500, I can’t complain about that.

My goal this year for the Run for the Cure is a mere $200. Too easy! We raised more than that last year with the help of the FINISH TIME POOL which I’ve resurrected. For each $5 you donate, you will receive one square on the board (see below). Example: You donate $25, you get to choose five (5) available squares. Whomever chooses the square closest to my finish time (without going over) wins a prize.

Note that blacked out squares have already been taken.

Granted, last year’s prize was a bit wonky (a water bottle filled with pink ribbon M&M’s) but I promise this year’s prize will be a bit better. However, you’ll have to make a donation in order to find out…

A few facts about Breast Cancer:
- Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women.
- In 2007, an estimated 22,300 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,300 will die of it.
- Breast cancer survivors represent 1% of the female population.
- 1 in 9 women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. One in 27 will die of it.
- An estimated 170 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 50 will die of it.
- Breast cancer death rates have declined in all ages combined and in every age group since at least the mid 1990's.
- Breast cancer mortality rates have declined by 25% since 1986.
- Incidence rates have stabilized since 1999.
- The 5 year relative survival rate is 86%.

And, as I always remind you, even MEN can get breast cancer. A cure for any type of cancer could lead to cures for all types of cancer. Online donations can be made by clicking HERE. If you’d like to make a donation by cheque/money order/cash, please email me to find out where to send it.
