Bon Cop, Bad Cop

Shoot first, translate later.

Straight laced, turtleneck wearing Toronto based OPP officer Martin Ward (the always fabulous Colm Feore) and rebellious Montreal detective David Bouchard (Patrck Huard) are thrown together to try and solve a murder. What brings about this inter-provincial investigation? The victim's body was found on the border between Ontario and Quebec - one half in each province. However, the body is not merely lying in a field somewhere or even on the highway. It's hanging over the "Welcome to Ontario/Merci de visiter Quebec (I hope that's right...)" sign. Now that's original. Throw in a hockey obsessed killer who likes to tattoo his victims and you've got a pretty good movie (just in time for the start of the new season).

While the movie is full of laughs, it's essentially a buddy-cop action film. However, it's also highly educational. For those of you trying to learn French (or English), you'll quickly pick up the correct use of various swear words in both languages. Always the best part of learning any new language. There's also a pretty good soundtrack. Oh, and make sure not to miss the cameo by Rick Mercer. Oh how I love him.

Enjoy. Not sure about availability in markets other than Canada, and possibly the US but if you can find it, I'd recommend spending an evening curled up on the couch under a warm blanket, a big bowl of popcorn in your lap, and your favourite movie-watching buddy/partner beside you (in my case, the cats who are asleep and missed all the subtle French vs. English jokes which are so particular to Canada). Its not the best movie out there but makes for a pleasant evening.

What planet are you from? Toronto...

One of the executive producers on this was St. Patrick Roy (former hockey goalie GOD, for those not familiar).

I downloaded this but I got a version in which the French was not subtitled - was it subtitled in the copy you have? I thought it was weird and that I was missing half the story, so I stopped watching it and got rid of it off my hard drive...

I seem to recall Mister Anchovy gave this a good review last year. Must keep my eyes open for it.
