Throne Speech Bad News for Dion

Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Oh the Liberals are in trouble. Immediately following the throne speech yesterday, both the Bloc and the NDP (oh Jack Layton, you sexy beast you…) have declared that neither party will support the government. That means the ball is now in the court of the Stephane Dion and the Liberals. Rather than making a decision right away, they’ve decided to discuss it overnight and render a decision sometime today. What to do, what to do? I’d hate to be Dion today, for more than one reason but that’s beside the point. You see, if they refuse to accept the throne speech, that means Canadians are headed for an election. Not only are we all a bit sick and tired of elections (how many have we had in the past few years????) and of course, people will associate the Liberals with the fact that we’re back at the polls. Plus, Dion doesn’t have the support or the charisma to lead a national party, in my opinion. There’s no way they’ll win the election and we’ll likely end up with a PC majority this time around (something none of us want to see, right?). On the other hand, if the Liberals choose to go along with the government and accept Harper’s speech, he’ll come under heavy fire from the other parties and incur the wrath of many of the members of his own party, as well as voters. It’s a no win situation and honestly, I can’t say what I’d recommend he do. I’m not happy either way.

In other political news, is Stephen Colbert really serious? Can you just imagine…what if he actually won? That would be hilarious!

Yep, it's a toughie. I'm not a Dion fan at all and wouldn't vote Liberal anyways, but I do want Harper OUT, and therefore we need an election to do that. Unfortunately, now doesn't appear to be the best time. Grr.
