What "NO FLYERS PLEASE" Really Means

NO flyers except YOUR flyers. Yes, you. The moronic campaign workers in our city who apparently can't read. Sorry, prepare yourselves for a rant folks. Something's been bugging for the past few weeks and I was finally set off this morning after reading Tanya Espanya's recent post about her local election. Seems I'm not the only one who has a problem with canvassers.

For local readers, you'll know that we're currently gearing up for an election. In fact, I believe the entire province is having municipal elections next week as the dates are preset. To try and be a bit more environmentally conscious, earlier this year I went out and picked up one of those "No flyers/No Unsolicited Mail" stickers and proceeded to stick it right under the slot in my mailbox. Unless you're completely blind, you can't miss it. It even comes with a visual aid for those who may not speak/read English. It's worked really well over the past few months with the occasional Mom & Pop pizza joint flyer getting stuffed in with my bills now and then. I'm a happy Captain. And then campaign season began.

It seems that almost every candidate for mayor and every other candidate for city council in my area has had their canvassers drop a flyer in my mailbox. Apparently the "NO FLYERS" sign doesn't apply to political pamphlets. Frankly this pisses me off more than all the junk mail I've gotten in the past. How dare you! If I want to know more about your candidate and their plans for our fair city, I would call or visit your office, or visit your website. All you're doing is annoying the shit out of me and encouraging me to vote for someone else. Congratulations, you've just lost one more vote. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. There are probably hundreds of people in my neighbourhood alone who are ticked off about the amount of extra recycling they're having to do thanks to the idiocy of the teenagers these wannabe politicians send out to drop these useless pieces of glossy paper into the mailboxes of unsuspecting constituents.

Keep your hands off my mailbox and don't knock on my door if you want me to even consider thinking of voting for you. Arrrrrggggh!

We had a no flyers sign on our house as well and it made absolutely no difference and it drove me crazy. It also led me to never support any business or anyone who left a flyer at the door. I guess the next step would be to return them to sender. If we could only have a bulk folder like my email where you can just ignore it and away it goes.

Amen, sista! We are all capable of finding out about the candidates elsewhere. No need to kill more trees.

What politicians are poking in your mailbox is tantamount to interfering with the mail which is against the law down here.

I too get insulted when someone has yanked out my windshield wiper to stick a pamphlet in, or when I get pop ups no matter what they are, or phone calls from solicitors, politicians or salesmen!

It's too bad you couldn't get absolutely everyone to agree to NOT vote.

God, that would be hilarious. Can you imagine an election where NO ONE showed up? Anarchy!! Yeeaaaahh!!!

Sorry it took me a while to slither over here. My comment is like a piece of junk mail... ;)
