Thank you, come again

I had an interesting exchange with the clerk at the neighbourhood convenience store this morning. Had to pop in to pick up some bread and while I was there I also grabbed some salsa (I was completely out) so I could have scrambled eggs for dinner tonight. He started ringing my purchases through and noticed the salsa. "You like chili?" He asked, slightly puzzled. I stared at him for a few seconds, then at the jar of salsa, then back at him again. It was pretty early so I wasn't quite with it. Finally I got it. "Oh yes!" I said. "The hotter the better." He was surprised because in his experience most white people (he was of Indian descent) don't like spicey food. Once again I just stared. All I could think of was that we obviously don't know the same white people... I then explained about the Thai inlaws and the use of chili peppers and various other yummy hot spices in most of our meals when we get together. Mmmm. Needless to say, we ended up having a great conversation about food, spices, and various restaurants. During the two block walk home, all I could think of was that I should make a curry this week. Yummy, curry...

Ha...nice. I love random encounters with the random people of this world. I have random people that know me stashed all over Charlotte. You never know what connections will come in handy during a zombie invasion.

This looks delicious. I am a huge fan of Indian and Thai cooking. Also some Thai is too hot for even me. Also Tex Mex - I love green Chili! I'm surprised the Clerk was surprised - but maybe he just needed conversation!

Darn, now I may have to rethink supper plans. For some reason I now have a craving for curry.
