We Call Them Pirates

I've received a couple of comments and emails about the skull hat below (which matches a number of sets of mittens I mailed out to various folks over the last year or so) so I thought I would pass on the pattern and info for it. Unfortunately I cannot claim to be the designer of such a fabulous piece of headgear. Nope, that honor goes to the folks over at Hello Yarn. They offer the pattern for the hat, entitiled "We Call Them Pirates", free to anyone who wants to use it. Just remember not to use it for your own profit.... In addition to the hat, they also provide a pirate mitten pattern (as well as generic, design your own, mitten and toque patterns) which is what I've used in the past, and a number of other funky patterns - all free of charge. Despite looking terribly complex and requiring the skills of an expert knitter (which I most certainly am not), the pattern for both the mittens and the toque are quite simple. My only complaint is that the mitten pattern was far too small when I made it and I couldn't figure out the brim on the hat pattern but you can always adjust and alter as you see fit. I'm dying for someone to try the squirrel mittens - if anyone's up for it, please let me know. I'd like to see how they turn out.

I still dream of the day when we can climb Kilimanjaro together and you can then teach me how to knit inbetween bivouc breaks...

The hat is super-kewl!

I don't knit, but if I did, there seem to be enough stuff on that sight to keep me busy. Personally, I like the socks too.

Adorable - are you selling any? My knitting skills are limited to a chain stitch - or is that crocheting?

Very nice, Karen!
