Arsenic and Old Pear Juice

Wednesday, March 12, 2008
It seems that almost every day, or at the very least every week, we've got a new report in the media about contaminated food, pet food, medications, toys, feminie hygeine products, and just about anything else you can imagine. This past week, we were told that in the US (and this can probably be extended to other countries as well), the tap water which we've all taken to be relatively safe (and better for the environment than bottled water) is contaminated with all sorts of chemicals - antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones. Is it any wonder that we have so many problems? Thinks like earlier physical development in children (from the hormones in our food and NOW our water); autism, attention deficit disorder, and other behavioural problems; and resistance to antibiotics. Granted the amounts they found in the water were "small" but when you compound those amounts over years of cooking with this water, and drinking it, combined with the drugs in our food and the ones we're often overprescribed by, or in some cases demand from, our's no surprise at all that we're a mess. I'm not a HUGE believer in conspiracy theories (although the moon landing didn't happen, tee hee) as I commented on another blog, if the general public knew just what big business and the governments (often one and the same) we're really up too, they'd be shocked beyond belief.

And now, "the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaws Inc. are warning the public not to consume certain pear juices for toddlers as they may be contaminated with arsenic." No word on how it actually got into the juice. Arsenic? Seriously?

I am wondering the same thing...arsenic!!! in BABY food?!? - glad I'm not the only one questioning the "nutritional value" of everything we consume.

We became totally screwed when we let big business take over our food supply.
