Book Club?

Friday, April 04, 2008
I'm pretty sure I'd asked about this before but I was wondering if anyone's interested in joining/creating a Classic on-line book club? I realize that Dr. Monkey's Spring Reading Challenge is still ongoing, but when that ends I was thinking of getting some of my fellow bloggers/readers together to try and read some of the classics together. Here's what I was thinking of. There'd be a limit of 12 members (myself included) and we each get to pick one classic book**, one book read each month. Not sure how many of you might be interested but if you are, let me know. Personally, I love reading classic literature. Unfortunately, stuff like Dickens makes my head hurt and I'll need the assistance of others to help me struggle through it... If there's enough interest, I'll work out more details. Thanks!

Or, if not a Classic book club, than what about a regular one (still with limited membership and the one member, one book idea)?

** Anything generally considered to be a "classic": including the Old (Plato, Herodotus and Sun Tzu, for example) to the more Modern (Dickens, Bronte, and Orwell etc).

If this was fall, I would say I'm in...but this is spring, and I don't think I can find the time to read enough to keep up.

Let me think on it.

I'm with Mr. Anchovy - my time is slipping through my fingers because of so much spring stuff going on - I keep trying to read Toller's book, but I've picked it up and put it down so much, I've given up. Still.......the draw is strong....

I'm in. I'm looking for an excuse to pick up some "classics" that I'd like to read and I could use some help working through them. Classic book or classic novel? So non-fiction could be worked in there as well?
