Taking A Break

Tuesday, June 24, 2008
I'm going to take a bit of a blogging break for the rest of the week to try and destress from work. This is going to involve a lot of reading, long walks along the river and plenty of nice hot bubble baths. And of course, the greatest de-stresser of them all, snuggling with the pack of great hairy beasts that occasionally sleep in my closest. Never fear, my coworkers are safe and sound, oblivious to the seething wrath bubbling below the surface of my normally smiling, giggly exterior. It's just one of those things - I need a break from something and this seemed easiest at the moment. A vacation far far away from the office would be lovely but impossible unless I win the lottery tomorrow night. Hmmm, I wonder if my sister's got room for me in her suitcase...I've never been to the Netherlands.

Just a couple of things before I go, I have a book to give away. It's Frozen in Time, a book about Owen Beattie's research into the failed 19th century Franklin Expedition. Nonfiction naturally-combining archaeology, forensics, and tales of exploration and adventure. I found it fascinating but I'm a bit of a geek so it might not be for everyone. It's the updated version of the book from 2004 including pictures from Beattie's 1984 and 1986 visit's to the Arctic. If you're squeamish and don't do well with mummies/dead bodies, this might not be something you want to read. If you're interested, send me an email with an answer to this question: Name one of the three crew members whose bodies were exhumed and autopsied by Beattie and his team.
Thanks all. I'll see you shortly.

I read about the Franklin expedition a few years ago in a book about explorers. Poor dude had it pretty rough if I recall correctly.

Have a good break. I hope it helps. As you know, I am a fan of periodic blog breaks.

I actually think I read that book when I was in high school...

Totally understand the need for a break. Enjoy it to the utmost!

Weird, I have a copy of Frozen in Time to unload as well. I liked it, but I doubt I'll re-read it.

Enjoy your break! Summer is the time for snipping the computer umbilical cord anyway.
