Damn it. Deep down, I'm girlie.

I have to admit it, I am. I don't like to admit it but, well, there you have it. However, you'd never know it from looking at me. It's not that I dress like a big old sloppy man-type or anything (well, not ALL the time), I'm dressed fairly girl-like for work with pretty tops and occasional a light smear of war paint somewhere on my face. But I'm not overly girlie. I don't wear jewellry other than two small rings - I don't even wear a watch anymore which can sometimes be a problem. And I only wear a skirt once ever six months or so. I haven't owned a dress in years and I have only one pair of heels but I wear them even less often than the skirt. Give me a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and some sandals any day of the week and I'm happier than a pig in poop.

Every once in a while though, my girlie-ness creeps out. Case in point, Friday of last week. I was at home (as I am all this week - don't ask) and felt like going to a movie. The Admiral and I went to see Get Smart (it was ok, not great - I wouldn't recommend spending the money to see it). Afterwards, she had to do some shopping and I just wanted to have a nap so we parted ways. Since it was raining, I headed through the pedways rather than go outside. Along the way, I passed Danier Leather, a store I'd normally not even acknowledge, and for some ungodly reason, I snuck a peak at the window as I walked by. There it was. The PERFECT PURSE. Or the closest thing I've come to my whole life. For those that know me, I mean really really know me, you're probably scratching your heads in wonder. A Purse? The Captain? Surely you jest. She doesn't even use a purse. If anything she'll just carry her wallet or throw stuff in her back pack. Does she even know what a purse is? Oh yes, mateys, I do.

It's true that I rarely carry a purse. It's just not me for the most part. One of the reasons behind my anti-purseness though is that I refuse to continue spending money (sometimes a lot of money) on bag after bag when they fail to meet some particular requirement: colour, size, length of strap, amount of space/pockets/zippers, type of closure, frilly add-ons such as bows, ties, etc. I've secretly been on the search for that perfect bag but the prize was ever so elusive. I figured it just didn't exist. Until now. There it was. Sitting there in the window, staring back at me. On sale. I swear I heard angels singing.

To be fair, I didn't go into the store. I have no idea what it's like inside, if there are enough pockets, pouches or space. However, from the outside the size is perfect, handles optimal size and there is a slight decorative flourish on the front but not tackily done. And I've only seen it in the white. It apparently comes in black, red, brown and the black/white combo shown above (the style displayed at the store). It's also made of leather. A bit of a problem. But that means it would last longer than some cheaper plastic model. And the price is a bit prohibitive. Even on sale. Although, I could buy it for myself as a Christmas/birthday gift. Oh damn damn damn. I wish I had never seen it...it now haunts my dreams and taunts me from the internet....

I'm not a purse-lover at all. I have my very functional MEC shoulder bag thingy, which I love, and a smaller beaded purse for when I need to "dress up" (I've used it twice in 4 years). Danier...I remember them well. There was an outlet next to the Crapters I worked at. I never saw anything in their window that ever made me react the way you did...Mikasa on the other hand...

Go for it! There's something to be said for a nice leather bag. I felt that way when I bought a Roots leather bag...
