How Many Do We Need?

Global News is reporting this morning that the city has approved the rezoning of a parcel of land in the downtown area for the building of a 26 story high rise. Based on the address they gave, it's a block from our apartment. However, the pictures they showed made it look as though it was the spot occupied by a trio of small houses right beside our building. If this is correct (and they got the street number wrong), it could spell the end of our garden. At least in it's current location. This sucks.

Even if it isn't the spot right beside us, the last thing we need downtown is yet another giant condo building. How about some affordable rental housing for those who can't get a mortgage but still need a place to live? Hmmmmm? And why downtown? Just so you can charge exorbitant rates and become super wealthy? Considering the number of condo buildings still under construction, or the many on which construction's been halted, do you really think you're going to make that much money? Sheesh. Sometimes city council members aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

Everywhere I look builders are building an overabundance of condos and motels and hotels. I don't understand the trend, not at all.

Oh, don't get me started about stupid decisions city councils make! Yeah, this sounds like it's gonna such. Losing your garden would lick, but also, if it's that close to you, you'll be hearing the sounds of construction for God knows how long, too. That always makes life soooooo pleasant.

Developers will not be satisfied until every scrap piece of land is built upon.
