Watch the Person Next to You!

Thursday, July 31, 2008
Today has been a bizarre day already and it's only 8:15 in the morning. Along with a possible murder in the downtown area (surprise!) and the weird goings on a block away, it seems that it's no longer safe to ride the Greyhound bus.

On a bus heading from Edmonton to Winnipeg, a passenger who boarded the bus around Brandon walked to the back of the bus and sat down. Other passengers report that he looked and acted calm, just your average passenger. After about 20 minutes, the rest of the bus was rocked by blood curdling screams coming from the back of the bus. Seems the new passenger had pulled out a hunting knife and began stabbing the person who was sitting next to him (apparently asleep). As everyone tried to run off of the bus to safety, the man continued stabbing the other passenger repeatedly and there's reports that he was eventually decapitated. The Regina Leader Post is also reporting that the man then started waving the severed head around.

What the hell has our world come to? Every time I board a city bus, I'm now going to start worrying about what the person who sits down next to me might do. God forbid I take a flight somewhere and decide to have a snooze. Not bloody likely now, thank you very much.

It's a very disturbing story. I heard about it on the radio this morning and it is very shocking.

I was about to email you the story, just on the offchance you hadn't heard about it yet. What's the matter with people, eh?

Anyway, you should feel relatively safe on planes, since people *shouldn't* be able to bring knives on board...

Um, that's a nice way to wake up, isn't it? Being stabbed and decapitated. Ah, how I'm looking forward to visiting you, whenever that may be. Perhaps I'll put moving to Canada on the backburner...

I just woke up to this, too. I get up, sipping my morning libation, turn on CBC, and WHOA! Good frickin' God! There are no words...

Be careful out there. We don't have a cute Canadian gal to waste.

Oh, that's every day life in London! 50 people stabbed so far, a few on the Tube, a couple at bus stops. Ah, what can you do? Nothing. Actually there is something that you can do: never be scared of travelling by public transport! 'Cos once you are, that's it, no point living in a city.
Always be careful though, and alert to everything and everyone.

At least you don't get bombs.
