Hey Y'all

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Here it is, the last day of September. The year is flying by far too quickly. Only two weeks until the Canadian version of Thanksgiving. Mmmmm, turkey. Family and friends. Full bellies. More fart jokes. And, of course, the usual post-feast card game. I can't think of a better way to spend a blustery fall day. That week is going to be busy for our little household. On Saturday, I'll be making the cranberry sauce along with getting all of my usual weekend chores out of the way - shopping, laundry, cleaning... Sunday will be our big get together. Monday, a day to recover. Tuesday it's back to work and finding time to vote. Wednesday - the big football game!

Yep, in just two short weeks the Admiral and I will be bundling ourselves up against the cold (possibly), grabbing our Canadian flags and sitting outside watching Team Canada get demolished by Team Mexico in a World Cup 2010 qualifying match. Yes, I have great faith that Canada will lose yet again. As you can see from the standings below, we're in third place.

Normally, that wouldn't be a bad place to be but there are 5 pts seperating second and third places. That's a big difference to make up especially considering that Canada only has three matches left including our game on the 15th. It doesn't look good. However, the Admiral will provide the snacks (including a beer to warm our innards) and a good time wil be had by both of us. At this point it's unclear what the weather's going to be like on match day. Today we're headed for a record breaking temperature (for September 30th) of 27C!!! What? The weather is supposed to be maybe 15C at this time of year. This is just insane.

In other news, I'm buying luggage this weekend in anticipation of a possible vacation in the spring. I'm a bit of an advance-planner. Heck if I had the suitcase in my hands already, I'd probably have it packed despite my potential flight date isn't for another 5 1/2 months away! I must confess, I picked up travel sized soaps, toothpaste, deoderant, etc the other day while at the drug store and they're already sitting in a makeup bag awaiting the purchase of my ticket. Egads, I'm pathetic...! On top of that, a couple of very generous folks have offered to let me stay with them for a few days more than I had originally anticipated. I think I love them. And the hotel which Moneypenny recommended has plenty of availability and they're giving me a slight discount. Bless the English. They're amazing. To fill up my time which isn't already booked personally guided tours, trips to the seaside and various other points of interest, I've started planning which guided walking tours to take (again, another recommendation from Moneypenny). AND! Thanks to one of my sisters who'll be donating the cell phone she picked up while in Holland (remember the texter? Bastard) for me to use while I'm overseas. Just have to grab a SIM card (???) when I arrive, slap a few GBPs on it and bob's your uncle! Am I getting just a tad bit excited? Hmmm, perhaps. Ok, yes. I am. A lot. Eeeeek! Just for the record, I haven't taken a vacation since I was 18 and Jody the NonBlogger and I headed to Disneyland after we finished highschool. Given the age I'll be when I travel, it works out to one vacation every 18 years. A bit sad really but there it is. So you'll just have to put up with my weird pre-planning fetish and crazy excitement. I've earned it.

You so deserve it! I'm getting excited about my planned adventure in May and am doing my damnedest to save up for it so I can make it a reality!

Being a Capricorn is all about forward planning. :)

As someone born and raised in the oft maligned (and oft deservedly so) Southern US, I thank you for the "y'all." Properly punctuated and everything! I know way too many folks around here who go with "ya'll" and that's, well, wrong.

and i'll be somewhere in the dreaded united states by then, if all goes well, and headed for mexico! might be a good idea NOT to be in the states for their election ....what ya think?

I am a Virgo and I am organised and everything, but you and Red are crazy!
Never mind forward planning... you two ladies are planning the forward planning for the forward planning :)

I don't even know what I'll do next month...apart from the music gigs...

WC: that's the way I'm looking at it too! I'm excited for you as well. The train is a great way to see this country. Shame that more folks here don't use it.

Red: We are the most organized signs in the zodiac, aren't we?

Pokecheck: Whew! Glad to know I got it right. I couldn't imagine spelling it any other way though...

Harpervalley: Mexico? Colour me jealous. You've been doing a lot of travelling lately!!! Don't you ever stop?

Milla: It's both a blessing and a curse. Sure, we know what we're doing months in advance, leaving little to chance but we also get accused of being far too anal about it.

That is fine. Get excited. I love when I travel. I used to get sick when getting to excited but I have out grown that.

I love planning trips! We just bought some lightweight duffel wheelie things at Costco and they're the best luggages ever! (and we travel a lot).

If you need any help or just want to bounce packing ideas around, I'm your gal.

I plan ahead and pack ahead too. Im planning a crazy month long trip to the pacific west coast next fall, and a three month trip to Europe. I want to go to Florence for a month, to England for two or three weeks and then Frankfurt, Sweden, Paris..I'm out of control and with no budget.

I can pack a suitcase in 15 minutes...but thats because I have visualized all the clothes I want and stuff ahead of time.

I didn't realize Canada was so lame in soccer. Oh dear. I've posted two things that relate somewhat to you this week. (one about tattoos being art and related to art history, and one about favourite hockey players) Actually, one will pop up tomorrow...see I even pre-write my blog posts. I have Thursday Thirteens written weeks in advance, scary!

But I can also be terribly impulsive...
