The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is on again!

This morning I awoke to the news that Terry Gilliam will be restarting production on The Man Who Killed Don Quixote next year. I am soooo excited! While not a giant Gilliam fan, I watched the documentary Lost in La Mancha a couple of years ago after finally finishing one of my all-time favourite novels, Don Quixote. The documentary followed Gilliam and his cast as he tried to make the film despite setbacks from the weather, injuries to his cast, scheduling and insurance problems, etc. Eventually production was shut down. The bits and pieces of the film the audience is privy to looked fantastic, an original twist on the DQ tale. Unfortunately, if it DOES get made, we'll have to wait until 2011.... I would love to see Jean Rochefort once again try to take on the role of Quixote himself but considering the health issues he had on the original set, I'm guessing not. Shame, he was perfect.

Wow, Mr. Gilliam is just a glutton for punishment, isn't he? I guess that's what makes a true artist. A lesser director would have hired Ben Affleck and slapped together Don Quixote 2: Electric Bugaloo or some &*%$ like that.
