Mormons Baptizing Dead Jews

Tuesday, November 11, 2008
This little gem caught my eye this morning and the only thing that I could think of was ... WTF? How dare the Mormon church! Where do they get off assuming they know the wishes of Holocaust victims when it comes to faith? Perhaps people are finally clueing into their whole scam and they can't recruit enough living members so they're going after the dead. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Under the agreement with the Holocaust group, Mormons could enter the names of only those Holocaust victims to whom they were directly related. The church also agreed to remove the names of Holocaust victims already entered into its massive genealogical database.

Ok, so one of your deceased relatives was Jewish and was singled out and murdered because of that fact. They paid the ultimate sacrifice for their beliefs, their family's history, their culture and what do you do to honor and remember them? Oh, let's convert them to a cultish religion without their approval. See, they can't speak up and say No thank you because...they're dead. Fuck you Mormon Church. Fuck you.

If I remember correctly, I think I read something a while back (or was it in a class?) about the Mormon religion baptizing the dead, regardless of religion (ok, so obviously they weren't Mormon at the time of death). It has to do with their connection to genealogy and the non-Mormons that use their services. My grandmother was one of those who actively used their archives - I'm sure she is one of the many post-passing baptized.

Hitchens covers this in his excellent section on Mormonism in God Is Not Great, and I was disgusted then. It's atrocious, IMHO.

Matt. 7: 1-2

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

John 12: 47-48

47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Mark 16: 16
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Read if you are willing to understand. If you understand what you read, act upon it, if you haven't hardened your heart yet.

Oh, neat - you got a drive by scripture troll!

I love it when people quote scripture to people who are atheists or critical of religious.

Yoo-hoo, ANON: we don't buy into the scriptures so it's meaningless to us. Got it? Don't waste your time or energy.

Futhermore: I do wish the Mormons would heed Jesus's words more often themselves.
