What to do with the Admiral?

Last night, after the Anaconda double-bill, decided to learn a little something and settled in to watch an episode of Cities of the Underworld on History Television. The episode was, surprise surprise, all about the hidden wonders of the world underneath London's city streets. It was fascinating stuff -bomb shelters, Churchill's bunker and, naturally, Roman ruins. About halfway through the program, the Admiral mumbled something along the lines of "...two weeks wandering around London... ". When I asked her what she said, she turned to me with a sad look and explained that she envied me and my upcoming trip.

A week or so ago, I had brought up the idea of the two of us heading off to Paris together for the next trip. Other than Italy, with it's incredible food, I can't imagine a place where she'd enjoy it more - coffee, cheese, and wine, wine, wine. Oh yeah, and some famous art and architecture. At first she seemed extremely excited but a few days later decided that it probably wasn't going to happen - she has her heart set on Egypt in 2012 (the year she turns 65). Given that the tour she wants to take is about $5 - 6000, I don't know if she's going to be able to afford it. I don't want to stomp on her dream but every time I've brought up England, she gets a bit sad and says something that indicates she'd love to go back.

While we have our differences and don't always get along, she's one of the few people that I can actually imagine being able to travel with (provided we have seperate rooms!). The Admiral understands my sometimes bizarre choices in what I want to see and my disdain for the typical touristy spots. Oddly enough, she would choose the same things (for the most part). It would be wonderful if I could convince her to go back to England with me on another trip (not this one) or to Paris - I know that she'd love it. Arrrgggh, all my plans of "paying off" the student loan could go out the window if she decides to finally say yes. What to do, what to do...

Would she be able to pay for her own trip, or at least most of it? And can she still get on the same flight and stuff?

Barb, it's not for this trip but I'm thinking of the possibility of another one in about a year which I think she would be able to afford. We shall see. The student loan still calls though...

Ahhh, what fun planning all these things - and it would be fun to go together too - - it would be a hard decision for me as I have a hard time putting off gratification, LOL.

Egypt sounds like fun though. I hope she will be able to make it. I know its not easy. But life is full of dreams one way or another isnt it??
