Hockey Playoffs

Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Well, the first round has it's fair share of excitement all the way up to the end - Carolina (yay, Pokecheck!) pulled two goals out of their hat in the last minute and a half of game seven against New Jersey to win their series. Whew. Sadly, once again, the Oilers didn't even make the playoffs, Calgary was eliminated in game six by Chicago, and Montreal was destroyed in four games by the Bruins. Canadians looking for a hometeam to cheer for still have Vancouver in the mix. Next up, they face Chicago which should be a good series although Vancouver ended their series in four games and have had almost a week off while Chicago has been playing right up until the end. We'll see if that rest was a good thing or if it bites the Canucks in the ass later.

The series I (and probably many fans) are looking forward to is the Pittsburgh/Washington matchup. Crosby (and Malkin!) vs. Ovechkin. This should be fun! I like Crosby but I'd like to see the two of them get into it and perhaps have him come out a little worse for wear. No predictions this year. I just don't know which way to go...

Are they still playing hockey? And no, that's not just southern AB sour grapes.

When I was a kid I sent off a letter to the great Gretzky, and I got a reply in the form of an autographed picture of him, sponsored by Mattel. I was the happiest kid in the world!

Hockey is alive and well in Raleigh, NC! I can't discuss assorted superstitions (of course) but I do thank you for the nod from Edmonton!

Also, looking like a fine battle between Chicago and The 'Couv. Two awesome teams this season.
