I've Been Thinking

...about what to do. Don't worry, I'm not getting rid of the blog. And, obviously, I'm still blogging occasionally. It never fails - I say I'm taking a break and then get a massive urge to blog! Anyways, my thoughts have been about how I'm planning on spending my summer. There will certainly be less blogging over the spring/summer months as I'm hoping to spend more time out in the fresh air.

On tap for the summer:

1. Balcony container gardening - the Admiral and I have already pulled out the pots, figured out what we need to purchase and have begun thinking about what we're going to plant this season. And I even planted a few bean and beet seeds ... just in time to find out that we're expecting up to 10cm of snow overnight!!! Sweet Jeebus. I'm also hoping to try my hand at canning some fresh veggies and make some jam/preserves this summer. I never thought I'd see the day. I've ordered a copy of Mary Anne Dragan's Well Preserved: Small Batch preserving for the New Cook thanks to a suggestion by Wandering Coyote.

2. Reading - I'll be trying to wean myself off of the computer and spend more time in the sunshine. I used to read so much. Now? Sometimes it takes me a month to get through a single, short book. That's going to change. A mix of fiction and non-fiction, alternating between the two to spice things up. And I'm finally going to get around to reading some of those classics that I've been meaning to tackle for years. I'll be asking for help/suggestions at a later stage.

3. Shakespeare in the Park: The family is DEFINATELY going this year. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We make plans every year and never do it. We haven't actually made it to Hawrelak Park since about 2003. No clue what's playing yet but it doesn't matter. The SIL and I have also discussed more family picnics and days spent enjoying the outdoors.

That's about as far as I got today before my brain gave up and starting worrying about the coming snowstorm. Darn it. No more sandals for a while. And the capris I was going to get from Old Navy? On hold until it's warm enough again to wear them...

I'm gearing myself up to read The Aeneid this summer.

I'm ashamed to admit I've never checked out the Shakespeare. Maybe that should be on my summer agenda, too. Reading is alreay there - I'm up to my ears in reading material.

Glad you haven't abandoned ship entirely!

A snow storm??? So late in the spring?

Ahhh a 'summer agenda' as SME calls it, what a good definition of your plan this is, Karen.
Maybe I'll make one too -but then again...what is the point of me doing that if I will not follow through with what the plans are?
I know myself: if I write a summer agenda I won't see the end of it until the following autumn.

We've gone to the Shakespeare in the park a few times in Calgary and it really is a great way to spend the lunch hour. You should go!
