Christmas in July!

The Christmas knitting has begun. Not quite in earnest but its begun. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve given up on the thought of making myself a sweater anytime soon. I’m guessing its just not in the cards. However, I’ve got a list of mittens to knit and people to knit them for. I’ve even ordered a bunch of yarn (and fabulicious new needles) from Knitpicks.com so I can get started ASAP. The only thing I’m waiting for is a copy of a pattern book I’ve requested from the local library. Yes, I have other patterns to work with in the meantime but I’m dying to see this book! At last count, it was 8 pairs of mittens and 1 ½ scarfs (I’ve been working on the other ½ this week) that have to be done by Christmas. A couple of those need to be done by the beginning of December but you get the idea. Now the question is…can I do it? We’ll find out.Speaking of Christmas, I’ve already (as you may have guessed) put together my gift list for the holiday. When you have an extended family as big as mine (plus friends and coworkers), you have to. Thankfully, our family decided NOT to buy for everyone a few years ago and exchange names. As with last year, I’m guessing I’ll be swapping gifts with the Admiral. Yippee! Too easy. Since she doesn’t read my blog, I can share with you what I had in mind: the first season of NCIS (she loves it), a gift card to a movie theatre, and possibly some books from the local used book shop (she likes murder mystery-types). Or possibly the latest by her favourite author, Kathy Reichs. Considering her birthday is right before Christmas, she might get all of it! On top of that, I’m making mittens for the niece and nephew, a parcel for a blogfriend, and a mitten/scarf combo for a coworker. That just leaves a joint gift for the father/stepmother but I’ll have to discuss with the other siblings.

You know what that led to, don’t you? My own wish list for the admiral. I’m going to make it as easy as possible for her this year. I’m hoping she can get me a funky looking needle carrying case. There’s season 3 of Lost. A DVD or two that I would like (Flash Gordon!). And my big Christmas wish…a Laptop Lunch Box. Oh yeah. Oooh, or a gift certificate to my favourite spa. Yeah, massage would be lovely. However, no need to get greedy. I’m also hoping to get around to knitting a set of mittens for myself. I STILL haven’t made myself anything so, this year, it’s a high priority!

Other than that, not a whole lot to report. It’s been very VERY dry throughout the whole province. Lots of wildfires. The highway near Fort McMurray was closed for a while the other day. The farmers too are suffering because of the lack of moisture. One report I read said that if they didn’t receive at least 2 inches of rain by the end of the month…bye bye to this summer’s crop. Great. Another draught on the horizon. Come on rain, come one!!!!

Oh, some work news! The job description has arrived/been finalized. Awesome. I’m so happy! Great responsibility, not so much time on the phone anymore, and a feeling of power!!!!! Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration but not much (tee hee!). Sure, I didn’t get a bump in my classification, no raise, and, sadly, I didn’t get the cubicle with the window that I wanted. However, I’m still happy. Whew. One big worry off of my plate!!!

Congrats on the job.

I always intend to start my Christmas knitting...but I'm feeling so uninspired and uncreative lately. I'll probably wait until late October as usual.

It has always puzzled me that you have been working in the sector you are in, without a job description. That would be unthinkable where I work; we would get the Unions going mental straight away, and of course the employee.

You are already organising xmas gifts? Isn't xmas 6 months from now?
