And the diagnosis is...

...unclear. Had a great visit, as usual, with the fabulous Dr. H. I had written down everything that happened over the course of the week and explained everything including a family history of gall bladder problems and ulcers. He was reluctant to say definatively one way or the other if it was my gall bladder but he's leaning towards the no. Or perhaps a one off incident. I have an ultrasound scheduled for November to look for gall stones but it won't really mean a whole lot. He explained that if we don't see any it doesn't mean they're not there (or that I'm not prone to them) and if we do see them, it doesn't mean I'll have any more problems. Grrrrr. Dr. H also suggested it could be acid-reflux. See, half of what I described struck him as textbook gall bladder attacks and the rest were textbook acid reflux. It's possible I had some weird combination attack...getting hit on two fronts.

He just shook his head as he listened to the crazy things I had eaten over the course of last week (pizza, burgers, spicey greasy food...and penne with alfredo sauce which, surprisingly, made me feel better). Since grease/fat don't seem to be the problem, this added an extra argument against the gall bladder. While he didn't say "Stop eating those foods", the Admiral and I have a deal to not order in food for the entire month of September and I am going to avoid eating out as much as possible as well as trying to eat healthier at home. Dr. H suggested I keep a stock of antacids both at the office and at home for the next little while. If the pain comes back, he's advised me to pop 4 of them asap. If it DOESN'T help, then chances are it's NOT acid reflux but he sounds as though he's leaning towards that diagnoses. Fan-freaking-tastic.

I have the dreaded acid reflux (what a malady for our times, huh?), and take a lovely little pill to settle it back down. Hopefully whatever it is that's going on with your tum can be settled just as easily.

My god, it all sounds pretty terrible. I hope I'll never get something like this...

Did your doctor say anything about coca cola?
