Happy Hump Day

Wednesday, September 02, 2009
Well, it will be for those of you who are taking advantage of today's interesting nickname. *Ahem*

The heat wave here in E-Town continues. 30C pretty much for the past week, give or take a degree or two. Ugh. Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm complaining about the weather again. Sue me. It's my blog, I'll whine if I want to. Not much going on aboard ship these days: work, home, work, home, work, home...you get the idea. Things at work are picking up now that summer is winding down and September is looking like it's going to be super busy. I'm chairing a meeting in a couple of weeks where folks are going to hate me because I'm not going to put up with the crap that goes on at most of these things. A coworker and I have to put together training sessions on the program we are in charge of for the entire department, including the head cheese. We're also both training in the office one rung up from us on the corporate ladder. Everyone in the department has to find time to do about 6 hours of training for our new online time sheet entry system. Oh yes, on top of all that, there's the day to day work which still needs to be completed and I'm moving to a new floor at the end of the month to be closer to my group. Whew. I have no idea when I'm going to find the time to put together my Girls Grey Cup Party invitations!!

Yes, you read that right, I'm moving desks...again. My third in three and 2/3 years. I was so excited to move to my current location after the first 3 years at my job. It meant I was working beside my friends and the past 8 months have been a lot of fun. For the most part anyways. To be honest, I'm now looking forward to being semi-isolated once more. For one thing, it means I won't have to be in view of and in constant contact with my immediate supervisor. Plus, I won't have to constantly ensure there's someone to cover the phone when I need to wee. And, I won't have to cover the phones except over lunches one week out of every six. But the biggest thing, I won't have to listen to folks complain about being talked down to by their bosses for falling behind on their work when it's their own fault for not getting any work done while the boss was away because they were too busy socializing. Arrrrgggggh! I have no problems with folks socializing or complaining about their bosses...I do it too but not so much that my work suffers. When you're already really far behind, why do you spend an entire day doing almost nothing???? I'll miss hanging with my girls all day long but I won't have to deal with the drama which comes with it. Yep, that's definately a fair trade.

Such are the joys of office life.

Sorry I've gone on a bit of a rant there, haven't I? Ok, I'm done for now. What else to talk about? Hmmm, sports? Well, Edmonton beat the Ti-Cats this Saturday to take the lead in the West. Also, the Capitals are playing the Calgary Vipers in Golden Baseball League North Division playoffs. Unfortunately the Capitals lost game one. Badly. Crap. NFL will be starting up soon. Guess I should settle on a team for this year. The Ravens are my go-to team but this year, I'm just not feeling it. There's the Vikings but they signed Brett Favre who came out of retirement (Again!) and I just can't support that. I wouldn't normally follow the Eagles but certainly won't be now that they employ dog killers. Hmm, who to choose? I can't be a cheese head...even though the Packers' colours are the same as my old university and the Eskimos. Too many choices.

There's some confusion about whether Alberta is still rat-free.

Two new blogs for you to enjoy: Only Here for the Food which focuses on Edmonton's food scene and Closet Cooking, another food blog based in Toronto which has some fabulous recipes.

It's great to see you blogging again. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. It's been awfully quiet the past year.

I really enjoyed the article on rat free Alberta. Ever since I was a little kid I found this rat patrol fascinating.
