A good day

Have you ever had one of those days? You know what I mean. One of those fantastic, amazing, super-duper, wonderful days when you feel on top of the world? Well, I’m having one of those days!!!

No, I didn’t win the lottery or get a big raise. I didn’t find $20 in my coat pocket (although I did find a loonie!) or given the keys to a new car. Nothing quite as tangible as that. Nope, instead today I received not one but multiple compliments on my work and I’m flying super high. That might not seem like much to folks who aren’t aware of what I do, who I work with, or the type of job I do but considering the dynamics of my office and the people who provided the compliments…this is, to me, a huge deal. Let me explain a bit without getting into too much detail.

A coworker and I have almost identical jobs and we’re “in charge” of a particular program within our department, for lack of a better way to describe our responsibility. This week and next, we’re giving presentations to everyone within our department on certain aspects of this program (which almost everyone uses, including our bosses and all the way up to the head cheese). Today we were going to be presenting to a group that, in the past, we’ve both had some mild confrontations with. Nothing major but it was enough to ensure that we were both very nervous about this group and what might happen. It turned out, they were fantastic – lots of appropriate questions and comments. And, to top it off (and what made me so giddy with happy happy joy joy feelings), one senior level individual commented as they were leaving that it was most productive hour they had ever spent in a meeting.

**THUD***

That was my coworker and I fainting. When everyone left, we closed the door behind them and did a little dance of joy.

Later this morning, I was walking past the desk belonging to the admin staff of the #2 big cheese and was told that my coworker and I (same one I’m doing the presentations with) were the only ones in our entire organization that knows what we’re doing. All the other areas don’t follow the guidelines (which are set out in a manual accessible to everyone) and make tons of mistakes. Apparently we’re safe when she goes on a postal-worker style rampage.

We passed on this information to our immediate boss and they are beyond thrilled with the two us. Yep, all in all, it’s been a good day.

That is fabulous! There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of a job well done, except of course, the recognition of a job well done.
