Let the Playoffs Begin!

Yippee! This weekend marks the start of the CFL playoffs. I am happy to report that, finally, Edmonton has once again made the playoffs…in their own division! No lousy crossover consolation prize for us this year. On Sunday, the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos face off in another “Battle of Alberta” to see who will then get to play the Roughriders the following week. The winner of that game goes onto the Grey Cup.

The poor Admiral has had to suffer yet another losing season for her beloved Toronto Argonauts. This year, unfortunately, they were beyond bad. I don’t think they had a single win at home. Like the Leafs, they just can’t seem to put a winning team together. I am disappointed though that the BC Lions won the crossover battle and have made the Eastern Conference playoffs instead of the Blue Bombers. I don’t know what it is but I detest BC. And now we have to endure the horror that will be the eastern semi-final which features the Lions against the Ti-Cats. Hey, that’s interesting…Lions or Tigers? Hmmm, which would you put your money on? Seriously though, I’ll be cheering for Hamilton.

Despite Edmonton’s luck in winning the crossover last year, I’m not a fan. You shouldn’t be able to sneak into the playoffs through the other division. Come on folks, there are 8 teams (yes, just 8) and six of those teams (yes, 6) make the playoffs. If you can’t make the top 3 out of 4 teams in your conference…you should have to sit it out. I understand that sometimes that sucks for a team who does better than say the bottom two teams in the other conference but that’s why there are separate conferences. It’s just how the game is played. Can you imagine if they did this in other sports???? NFL? Hockey? Baseball? It would never happen.

I just realized that there are only 18 days until my Grey Cup party. Must start getting my supplies ready. The hunt for chorizo begins. And I have to figure out what I’m going to do for a halftime activity… Oh goodness. Not enough time.
