Sigh. I was awoken at 3:30 this morning by a cat who needed a cuddle. I suppose I should be thankful I got a little lovin' on V-day, even if it is from a non-human. For some reason this year, I am not feeling down, blue, sad, or lonely this Valentine's day although I'm not really sure why. It's very strange but I'm not going to complain about it. I will embrace it and be grateful that I'm in a positive mood. Perhaps its the overload of MSG and salt I had last night from the Chinese food I ordered. I know, I know...not good for me but I rarely have Chinese food anymore and really felt like treating myself.

Milla recently blogged about feeling restless and all the walking she's been doing because of it. As I read her post (her words are always so poetic), I started thinking about spring and walking outside. I miss long walks through the river valley, something I won't do in the winter due to the short amount of sunlight, lack of people if something happens and the cold wind. When mom and I first moved into an apartment together, I would walk home via the long route. This meant more than double the time and distance of my usual commute. I'd pack my running shoes, shorts and a hat and enjoy a nice long, sweaty walk along the paths on River Valley road. I've promised myself that I'm going to do that again starting in May which is probably the earliest I can reasonably expect to get away with spandex shorts (or capris) outside in Edmonton. Sure, I'm using my treadmill sporadically but there's the problem - sporadically. I'd much prefer to be outside and winters in Edmonton are not the greatest for wandering around for an hour or so...even if you dress appropriately. Having said that, I'm going to head off in a little bit for a walk. Desperately feeling the need for some fresh, crisp air today. Milla's had an added bonus to the head clearing walking offers (not to mention the great people watching and scenery): she's walked off 4kg! Something to keep reminding myself of.

The new Art Gallery of Alberta is open. I'm excited to go and have a look at the outside as much as I am to have a look at the exhibits inside. I'll try to take a picture this week and share the newest addition to Edmonton's skyline with you. Trust me, it's interesting... Sometime this summer, there will be a trip to the Royal Alberta Museum (I go at least once a year), and after almost 20 years in Edmonton, I will finally make it to the Muttart Conservatory. Heck, I can see the pyramids from my apartment! Maybe even a trip to Fort Edmonton Park. Oh god, I'm a tourist in my own town...! Its funny how much there is to see and do. Oooh, a Legislature tour.... Ok, I'll stop now.

For all of you out there with sweethearts and loved ones, I hope you have a lovely Valentine's day together. I'm going to spend the day relaxing, reading, walking, and watching movies. Enjoy!

I hope you have a great day, Karen!

I am missing walking, too, so bring on the spring, Mother Nature!

I'm going to have to make a trip up to the art gallery this summer, methinks.

Winters are actually my favourite time to walk, aside from the ice. Think of it: No bugs, no heat exhaustion, radically reduced chance of sunburn, and not as much sweat! Sure, you have to bundle and you can't stay out as long without, well, freezing, but it's a blessed respite from humidity!

Thank you Karen for the comment you left on my blog and for saying I write poetic words. That's really sweet of you!

I really recommend walking. It is good for the mind, for the body, for the heart, for everything. Now I walk even when it is pouring down with rain. And when you walk you see the city in different lights and you notice things more, you look at your fellow humans more. I work with people all day long so the 40 mins morning walk is MY time to think! MY time!

I hope that your day turned out fun. I need to get out more, I've been too much of a home body.

A new gallery? That's very exciting. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about it.

I try to leave earlier for work just so I can walk part way. I feel like I get to see a bit more of the world around me, unlike the cars that go zipping by, missing the beauty of their surroundings.

The other morning I was walking down my hill, and saw 3 deer running along the side of the road. They scooted into the woods just before I could get to them, but I would have missed it if I'd taken the bus. Here's to walking!

I was in my pjs and watching tv all day. It's a week later and I'm catching up on this, but I never even notice valentines day. I was single all my adult life and would get chocolates for my daughter but valentine's day is a non-event for me.

When I was bartending I always said to my customers on feb 14, "happy singles appreciation day". Never valentines ha ha.

Hey....you left a comment about how much you disliked the speed skating uniforms especially because they make the players look soiled etc. I couldn't figure out what you meant until yesterday when I saw that there are two different styles of speed skating uniforms, I suppose for different events. The one Wotherspoon wore is quite a bit diffeerent than the ones worn yesterday with black lining inside their legs.
Andyways, just thoughtI'd mention that ha ha. Obviously, I lve speed skating ha!

I see you haven't been blogging all weeek, but I hope you had a fun week. Screw valentines day!
