Good Friday? Nope, Good Saturday

Saturday, April 03, 2010

Today is a good day. You know those kind of days when you wake up and just feel happy to be alive? That kind of day. And it's been that way all day despite the over 1/2 hour wait for a cab to bring us back from the supermarket this morning. I just feel...good.

After our weekly shop and a snack, Mom and I took a trip over to the Running Room. I needed new running shoes (never ever call them sneakers like I did the last time I bought shoes...the look I got would have stopped a rhino in its tracks). My current ones, my fabulous fluourescent green-trimmed Saucony's, are about 4 years old and should have been retired a long LONG time ago. However, running shoes are not cheap so I've been waiting. Because I have motion-control issues and pronate more than the average Jane, my choices were limited. Factor in that I have a 9.5 size foot (USA) and it makes shoe shopping difficult. The Running Room carries a total of 4 styles that fit the bill. And only one of those were in stock in my size. Well, the running shoe gods were with me today because the lone pair was perfect. And, surprise surprise, they were this year's version of the shoe I bought last time! I was so excited that I decided to treat myself to some new specialty socks (my lone pair remaining in my sock drawer is older than the shoes) and didn't look at the price. Probably a good thing too since I spent $45 on 4 pairs. Eeeeeek. Oh well.

Rather than bus it back home again, we opted to walk since we had also stopped off at the newest location of Whimsical Cupcakes. This is the same company that created the Necrinomicake for Big Brother's birthday this year. Mom treated me to a Berry Lovely, a strawberry flavoured cupcake with a light berry frosting, while she indulged her craving for a Passionista, a vanilla cupcake topped with a passion fruit flavoured icing. Holy schmoleys. Now that was fabulicousness. To work them off, we headed across the highlevel bridge, through the legislature grounds and then up the hill to home. Oh so worth the physical exhaustion at the end.

No big plans for Easter, not that we're religious anyways. We picked up a small turkey this morning and I'll be roasting that tomorrow and serving with some mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, stuffing and brussels sprouts. Mmmmmmm. No chocolate or candy for us - the Easter Bunny doesn't visit anymore which is probably for the best. What are you doing this weekend?

Our family on Tuffy's side is coming over. I'm making a deboned leg of lamb on the bbq, ratatoulle, a veggie biryani and some roast potatoes.

I just got new running shoes on Thursday! I found them at a local sporting goods place. My New Balance pair had worn out after 2 years of hard usage. But I am really disappointed with NB these days because all of their shoes have this breathable mesh thing going on and A) it's ugly as hell and B) it's impractical when you are doing trail hiking like I am, because your feet get filthy quickly. So, I opted for a pair of Merrell trail hikers. I have a pair of Merrell hiking boots, so I know it's a good name & that they will be sturdy for what I do with them. $100, though...Thank God I got my GST rebate that day!

Happy Easter to you & your family. I am going next door for dinner tonight & bringing a dessert I haven't yet decided upon. No Easter bunny for me either, I'm afraid...

Isn't it great to get new sneak...ahem...running shoes. That made me laugh. I bought my last pair at the Runner's Den and paid the usual high price that running shoes cost. Now I watch ebay for my shoe & size (also 9.5), and have saved loads by ordering my shoes on ebay.

Oh, as for my weekend? I went for a long run. I worked Friday and Saturday, and I'm also working Monday so it's a regular week for me. However, we're going out to dinner tonight with our neighbours to an veg Indian restaurant they highly recommend. It should be good.

I was really happy with the shoes I got at the Running Room as well, and I loved the customer service I received. Not crazy about the socks I got there though, the two layers tend to slip around each other and I find that annoying and uncomfortable.

No chocolate for me either, as the Easter Bunny had no reason to visit this year. Probably for the best.

If the shoes are not comfy, you can run in your super fantastic socks...
