Edmonton has logged it's third homicide this week. That may not seem like a lot to some folks living in bigger, badder cities but it's huge for Edmonton. A woman was shot with a sawed-off shotgun in the Stadium LRT station last night. It's also the second violent crime reported at a transit station in the past 24 hours - someone was stabbed at the Kingsway Mall bus station today. Sweet Bejeebus. Late last year, an Edmonton bus driver was pulled from his bus and the man who assaulted him kicked him in the head over 10 times putting him into intensive care for months and ultimately losing sight in one eye. Edmonton is becoming increasingly violent and I'm running out of places I can go... there was a stabbing in front of the downtown library (MY library) a few weeks ago. Strangely enough, the past few years have seen an increase in knife-related crimes rather than guns. Is this the same everywhere?

Apparently Calgary's crime rate has actually dropped over the past few years. I'm not sure about the violent crime rate though.
