You CAN delete your Facebook account!

Thursday, May 27, 2010
Huh, go figure. With all the talk in the media these days (at least up here) about people wanting to leave Facebook and their less-than-satisfying privacy changes behind, I have been shaking my head a lot. Everyone talks about deleting their account, the media is reporting about people deleting their accounts, and I keep yelling at the television "You CAN'T delete your account, they only deactivate it!". Well, slap my ass and call me Kermit, apparently you CAN delete your account. After another mention of the whole mess this morning on CBC Radio, I decided to log back in and see what I can find out. Turns out, that if you click HERE, it will take you to a site (within Facebook) where you can delete your account. It takes 14 days and, if you log back in anytime during those two weeks, you have to do it all over again but yippee!!!! Hmmm, you'd think they'd make it just a wee bit easier...

I'm like SME in that I don't use it enough to be bothered, but it's good to know that you won't be hanging about in internet limbo waiting for someone to hack you.

I'm leaving mine open, but I sanitized much of it.

I'm staying on Facebook after considering leaving it. I have mostly family members as friends on mine, and it is a nice way to say hi to them.
However, if I change my mind at least I know where to opt out permanently.
