More Mittens...

Tuesday, September 14, 2010
I started and finished another set of mittens this past week. Surprise...they are yet another pair of Komi Mittens. This purple and white creation is will be given a new home with my buddy Roby this Christmas in exchange for a big box of her homemade butter tarts. Mmmmm, buttertarts! Up next will (finally) be a pair of mitts for myself. Yes, another pair of Komi mitts, in red and orange.

I finished off my Fruit of the Vine scarf but I'm not happy with it. Its not as long as I wanted and I think the alpaca was the wrong choice. Oh well. It was an experiment and not all experiments are a success. For now, I'm just going to stick with my mittens. I'm going to place another order for more mitten yarn soon and I'll have enough to keep me busy for the winter months.

September, so far, as been the month of medical appointments. First up was a visit with the fabulous Dr. H where we spent the entire appointment laughing and celebrating success: my blood pressure has been normal for 3 years (with medication) now and I only have to go back and see him once a year; my cholesterol has gone down 25% since the last time we checked earlier this year; and I've dropped 6 lbs since March. WOO HOOO! Sadly, I celebrated with a few not so great choices this weekend but still healthier than I would have 6 months ago. Yesterday, I visited the almost as fabulous Dr. B to get my eyes checked. No signs of glaucoma, eyes are super healthy (although I do wear glasses) and my prescription didn't change at all in the past 6 years (uh oh...6-6-6...). Sadly, he's retiring at the end of this year so I'll need to find a new optician but other than that it was good news. Today, after having to postpone my last 2 appointments this summer, I'm back to the dietician for a follow up. She's not going to be impressed with my H20 intake or my eating habits but my increase in exercise should give her reason to smile. The good news though is the small weight loss and lower cholesterol thanks in large part to less eating out and slightly healthier choices when I do so. More appointments next month. Sigh...this is what happens when you get older.

Not much else going on these days - the Eskimos continue to lose. The weather is delightfully crisp and cool, breezy and wet. I'm loving it.

Congrats on all your great medical news; that is totally excellent! The mittens look great, too. You are the mitten queen, I do believe. Looking forward to wearing my red ones this winter again - I'll be styling!

So glad to hear that your healthier choices are paying off! You've inspired me to tackle that elliptical.

Sorry about the scarf...did you try some heavy-duty blocking?

And the mittens? Very fabulous!

That's good news! Well done.

I love the mittens! How do you do that? I get nervous when I have to use more than one colour in any pattern other than a stripe.
