Where Have I Been?

Sunday, September 05, 2010
Its been over a week since I last posted anything here. I've recently rejoined the ranks of Facebook (arrgh) and its once again become a terrible addiction. However, I've also been sick. I had trouble sleeping last week, waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep. My immune system got terribly run down and caught some sort of bug. I missed two and 1/2 days of work and spent most of my time blowing my nose, complaining to mommikins about being stuffed up, and trying to sooth a sore throat. In between, I knit a mitten (a new 3 day record!), knit half of mommikins' Christmas scarf, re-watched 2 seasons of Peep Show, lots of Youtube, some cheesey girlie movies, and did a bit of reading. Its simply amazing how much you can do when you don't have to be in the office.

One of the shows I've been catching up on was Come Dine with Me. It amazes me how bitchy people are about food other people cook for them. I love it. Most of the food the contestants prepare, I would never eat let alone try to make myself but every once in a while I get inspired. Especially when it comes to the desserts. Growing up, dessert was never a big deal although we usually had something now and then. However, it was often fruit cocktail, pudding from a mix, or ice cream. Special occasions meant chocolate cake or pie. The contestants on Come Dine with Me make terrines, merengues, and all manner of creme brules (which I've never tried). I was thrilled to see that Canada is getting its own version of the program. Personally, I don't cook any dish well enough to consider throwing a dinner party but I love watching others do it (and often fail miserably).

I haven't watched Come Dine With Me, but Food Network Canada did recently launch Dinner Party Wars, in which three couples each throw a dinner party for the others, and the winner is judged by a professional chef & some British woman who is an expert on dinner party etiquette and decorating etc. LOVED IT! It was too funny.
