Days 8 - 11 Seven Summits Challenge - Vinson Massif and Carstensz Pyramid

Wednesday, March 16, 2011
Another day, another two mountains climbed.  On Monday, I reached the top of the Vinson Massif.  I would have completed this portion of the fitness challenge a day earlier but I've had a couple of days where I've either forgotten to wear my pedometer or discovered I can't wear with a particular pair of dress pants.  And today, Wednesday (day 11), I will be up and over the peak of the Carstensz Pyramid.

That's four mountains in the past 11 days.

I'm very proud of my progress on the Seven Summits Challenge that I've set for myself.  Sure, leaving my pedometer on my sidetable really pisses me off and set me back a few days but I'm sticking to it and that makes me very happy.  The feet are doing much better - the left seems to have healed and the right, although it still gives me a bit of pain, feels great once I get going.  Chances are I'd be able to take part in the St Patrick's Day 5K this weekend with J2P3 but its too late now; I just don't have the money to register for it. I'm going to be cheering her on with a big sign and perhaps a pompom or two if I can convince Mommikins to join me.  And, on a very positive note, last night I ran on the treadmill again.  7 x 1 minute intervals and it felt really good.

I'm curious to know how you measured your stride for your pedometer. My new super duper sports watch has a pedometer on it with directions on how to measure my stride but I have to do it in a spot that I know is a certain length, then stride, then divide. Ugh. I guess I could do it since I have inherited a 25' tape measure but it seems to be a lot of hassle.

Go you, btw!

Climbing mountains is a brilliant way to measure your progress. How comfortable is it to wear a pedometer all day though?

Kasia - thanks!

Coyote: I'm not measuring my stride, I'm just going by the count on the display. My pedometer is really simple and I don't remember anything in the tiny instructions about measuring stride. I know that other ones do though. This was the easiest way for me to do it. And thanks!!!

Barb: I barely notice it on my jeans or causal pants but with one pair of dress pants its irritating and becuase of the waistband which keeps folding over, it doesn't register most of the steps. Argh.

This is an awesome idea. All the WIN of reaching mountain peaks, minus the deadly crevasses and altitude sickness! Climb on!
