As most of you who are semi-regular readers of my little blog, when the weather starts to a teeny tiny bit cooler and the leaves in our river valley start to change colours one at a time, you know I'm going to hit you up for money. Yes, its THAT time of year again - time for the CIBC Run for the Cure. My family has been very fortunate when it comes to breast cancer; we've managed to (knock on wood) avoid this particular type of cancer. Sure, we've battled other forms of cancer including Hodgkin's Lymphoma, bone cancer, prostate cancer, and blood cancers; but breast cancer? Thankfully not yet. I'm trying to raise $300 this year to help fund research, educational programs and healthy living initiatives across the country. Thanks to two generous donors, I raised $50 in less than 24 hours! Thank you thank you thank you!
Just like last year, I'm having a contest as well for everyone who donates to the cause by sponsoring me. I'll be giving away a pair of breast cancer-themed mittens hand knit by me to one lucky donor/sponsor. It doesn't matter if you donate $5 or $50, your name will be included in the draw. And there might even be a couple of other things thrown in to amp up the prize!!! Oh, and I wrote a poem this year to inspire and amuse you. Please help me reach my goal.
In case anyone is curious, no I will not be "running" the Run for the Cure. Mom is a walker and, despite my occasional attempts at running, I'm not ready to do a 5K. I AM confident that next year I'll be one of the runners but this year, as usual, we'll be power walking our way through the course.
