What I've Been Up To...

Monday, September 24, 2012
Never fear my precious bloggy peeps, I have not dropped off the face of the earth; just a bit of hibernating. I’ve had the urge to blog but no real “get up and go” drive to actually do it. There hasn’t even been much to say but I still feel the heart wrenching absence of blogging. Yeah yeah, I know, I’m being melodramatic but you get the idea. So, here goes…

Oooh surprise! A lockout. I don’t know much in terms of what either side wants (I’m guessing more money) or what either side is willing to give up (money … again), and to be perfectly honest, I don’t care. Living in a hockey town, where they discuss players, the game, and past glories all year round, it gets a bit annoying. If push comes to shove, I’ll gladly admit that I’m overjoyed at the prospect of no hockey this year. Not a shortened season or a late start; I don’t want hockey at all this winter. There, I said it. I’m sure that CSIS will be investigating shortly and I risk revocation of my citizenship but I’m really tired of hockey. Certainly I can’t be the only Canadian that feels this way but I often feel like it. Don’t get me wrong; its not that I don’t like hockey. I do! I just don’t want to LIVE hockey 24/7/365. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to decide what country I want to be deported to…

Thank god! A sport I truly love! In terms of sports, this is my all-time favourite few months of the year. You see, both the CFL and the NFL are playing right now (ok, not RIGHT this minute!) so I get to watch football 5 days a week. I’m once again in charge of the NFL pool in the office (and losing badly!) and will be arranging the annual Grey Cup pool board in a couple of weeks. Not to mention lookingforward to Grey Cup Sunday (CHILI!), snowy, blizzardy Sundays filled with 12 hours of non-stop football, and my “girls only” Superbowl Bash (mo’ CHILI!). Hot men, tight pants, slamming and crashing into one another? Yes please, with chilli on the side… From now until February, please don’t interrupt me except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Health and Wellness
Um…what’s that? Yeah, as you may have guessed, I haven’t done very well when it comes to being conscious of what I’m eating and getting some regular exercise. I’m still treadmilling but the bike has been relegated to the closet until spring. After testing out various routes, dates and times, I’ve discovered my favourite time to ride is first thing in the morning on weekends. Now that the leaves are falling and autumn has officially arrived, this plan doesn’t really work. After my last ride where I almost froze my fingers and my ears, I realized I needed light mitts and a toque. Since I haven’t yet added these to my wardrobe, riding that early is out of the question. Not to mention that its nearly pitch black at 630 in the morning and I don’t have a light for my bike. Heck, I barely stay upright in broad daylight, can you imagine me in darkness?!

I’ve also been experiencing what I’m guessing is eye strain. It only seems to hit me at work and it results in a headache and nausea. Considering I work on a computer all day, it makes things a bit difficult. I’ve moved my computer to a new location so it’s a bit further away from me and I’m trying to avoid using my computer at home as much. It’s helped a bit although I still get them occasionally. Guess this means a trip to the eye doctor soon. Sigh… that usually results in new glasses which I cannot afford anytime soon. Ack ack a dack.

Knitting continues. I’m making two pairs (maybe three) for Christmas presents. Reading as well although I’m finding I’m missing actual books for the first time in months. Perhaps a break from Hrothgar as well?

So there’s my life in a nutshell recently. Simple, plain, boring. Meh.

I have had exceptionally good luck with glasses from Clearly Contacts (really!). The frames are good, and the lenses have been great. And terribly inexpensive, which is fabulous.

Eye strain seems to be running rampant among my internetty friends these days! We are collectively keeping Visine in business. I've taken to wearing readers in bed, as I seem to need stronger light or bigger print at that time of day, and that seems to be helping.
