I'm Ready, Santa

There are only 16 sleeps until Christmas.  For the first time in a long time, I think I'm actually ready to go and can, for the most part, spend the next two weeks eagerly anticipating Santa's arrival and the sound of reindeer hooves on the roof***.  Like a true capricorn, I plan ahead and schedule baking sessions, Mom's birthday, shopping trips, when to send my Christmas cards, etc.  This year was no different except... it actually worked!!  With two weeks until the big day, all my presents including stocking stuffers are wrapped and sitting in my closet.  Mom's birthday lunch is scheduled, the kids are booked to come over to make a gingerbread house, and I only have two more things to bake.  In previous years, I realize almost too late that I've forgotten something or that I just don't have enough time and will have to do without.  Not this year!

My Christmas season started last week with our office party.  I was the emcee for the luncheon and it went better than I hoped.  Sure I get nervous and slightly anxious but deep down, I really enjoy doing things like that.  And, if I may toot my own horn, I'm pretty good at it.  Lots of compliments afterwards.  Sure, my jokes were cheesy and got more groans than laughs but everyone seemed to enjoy it.  It was also the largest group I've spoken to so far - nearly 100 people!  And, I wore my first ugly Christmas sweater.  The kicker?  I made that bad boy.

I have a number of events coming up that are sure to keep me busy (and stuffed to the gills):  a lunch with my immediate working group, lunch with some girls from my old office, Mom's birthday lunch, gingerbread making, and two more baking sessions (cookies and banana bread).  After that, its Christmas eve dinner at our place with the family and then Christmas day dinner at Big Brother's.

There is the big threat of getting sick over the holidays but so far I've been very fortunate.  Sadly, Mom can't say the same thing.  All weekend she's been feeling run down and slightly phlegmy.  No real onset of being "sick" but its threatening to any time now.  Half of my branch has been fighting off some crazy lingering cold/flu bug or they've succumbed and have been struggling with a terrible cough that won't go away.  Knock on wood, I've been lucky.  Here's hoping my luck holds up.

*** Actually, this is just my upstairs neighbours having noisy middle of the night sex.

Hats off to your extraordinary organizational skills! You are much further ahead than I am.
I got your lovely card the other day, one of the first. Thank you for livening up my kitchen window!
I hope your mom is feeling better soon and that you manage to keep those bugs at bay.
