The Cola Consumption Conundrum

Time for an update.  As you know, I tried to go Coke-free this month. Well, as you also know, that didn't quite happen.  Given how long I've been addicted to this damn stuff, its no wonder that I've had a few stumbling blocks along the way.   However, as I promised myself at the start, I wasn't going to beat myself up if I had a few sips (or a full glass) and I wasn't going to get discouraged.  Twenty two days in, I can happily report that I've cut my cola intake by at least half.  For me, that's a huge accomplishment and I'm counting that as a big success. 
 
Looking at my calendar below, I've averaged (so far) pop every other day.  The calendar however is misleading.  Some of those X's are days where I had 2-3 SIPS of soda and then stopped.  And on one day?  One sip.  However, I still felt it important to show myself that there was soda on those days.  Look at all those beautiful colourful stars and smiley faces (exercise days!).  March is going to be even more colourful with fewer black X's.

I used to drink at least one full can every day.  Often this was more than one can, especially if I was going out for a meal with friends/family.  Success on that front as well - two work related lunches and both times I had either water and/or orange juice.  I've cut back on the amount that I eat out this month although I freely admit that I haven't eaten as well as I should have.  There has been pizza, Chinese food, a sub or two, plenty of premade salads and a bunch of homemade sammiches.  And yesterday I caved and had McD's which included a pop.  I enjoyed every sip of it.  And that's one of the big differences.  When I drink it now, I'm not enjoying it like I thought I used to.  I'm listening to my body, my brain, and my taste buds;  if I'm not really savouring it, I'm not going to drink it (hence the sips!).
 
On the subject of eating well, I made myself a homecooked meal the other night - something other than a simple sandwich. 
 
 
Ok, to be fair, the veggie nuggets are premade/processed foods and the chips/fries were frozen but hey, it was an improvement on the past week.  The beets?  I roasted them and then marinated them in a little bit of balsamic vinegar.  Sadly, I had no feta which would have made them complete.  To be honest, this was the most enjoyable meal I've had in days.  And the next day?  I made a big pot of Wowie Maui Chicken (sweet and sour/pineapple chicken and rice) from the LooneySpoons collection.  OMG yum.  Just as delicious as when I first made it during university days.  Tonight, there's a big chunk of cauliflower in my future and possibly a roasted porkchop.  Oh home cooking, I've missed thee.

I seem to be doing the calendar thing all backwards. I am putting a big giant x on the days I exercise. I should follow your example and use something more colourful.
